Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Welcome to Wonk. We value the privacy of our users ("you" or "user") and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services, including our mobile application, website, and related online tools (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information We Collect
- Personal Information: We may collect personal information that you provide directly to us, such as your name, email address, phone number, and other identifying details. This information is used to create and manage your user account, facilitate communication, and personalize your experience.
- User Content: You may upload or share content through the Service, including but not limited to photos, documents, and text descriptions. The data you provide through these uploads will be stored and processed to deliver the functionalities you expect from the Service.
- Usage Information: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages you visit, features you use, content you view, and your search queries. We also gather device information such as device type, operating system, and browser version. This data helps us improve the performance and user experience of the Service.
- Location Information: With your explicit consent, we collect and process precise location data from your mobile device. This functionality is primarily used to allow parents or guardians to track students' whereabouts in real-time for safety and attendance monitoring. The geolocation service may run in the background whenever a parent is actively requesting location data. The student's device will receive a push notification when the parent initiates a location request, and the location tracking stops once the parent exits the tracking view.
- Cookies and Tracking: We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to remember your preferences and understand your interactions with the Service. Cookies help us analyze web traffic, customize services, and measure advertising effectiveness. You can choose to disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features of the Service may become limited or unavailable.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Service Provision: We use the information collected to provide, maintain, and enhance the Service, including enabling you to log in, manage your profile, access learning modules, and communicate with other users.
- Location-Based Services: We use your location information—if you have granted permission—to provide real-time tracking for parents or guardians, notify them if a student is on or off school grounds, and ensure student safety.
- Communication: We use your contact information to send you notifications, updates, and other essential communications related to your account or the Service.
- Analytics: We use aggregated, anonymized data to analyze usage trends, improve the Service, and develop new features.
- Security & Compliance: We may use your information to detect and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activities, comply with legal requirements, and ensure the safety of all users.
4. Third-Party Services We Use
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): We use FCM to send push notifications, such as notifying a student user that a parent is requesting location data. This service is provided by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- WebSocket Real-Time Communication: Our app uses WebSocket connections for real-time data transfer—especially for transmitting location data from the student's device to the parent's device during active tracking. This ensures immediate updates and a seamless user experience.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
- We may share aggregated or anonymized data with our partners or service providers for analytics and development purposes.
- In rare circumstances, we may disclose specific user information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if such disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety.
6. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. However, no security system is impenetrable. We encourage you to use unique, strong passwords and keep them confidential.
7. Children's Privacy
Wonk is used in educational settings, and we place special importance on the privacy and safety of children. We collect minimal information needed for account creation and location services. Parental or guardian consent is required to enable location-based tracking for minors, and this feature can be revoked at any time by updating permissions in the device settings.
8. User Choices
- Location Permissions: You can decide whether to grant or deny location access. Declining permission may limit functionality related to real-time location tracking but will not affect other core features of the Service.
- Notifications: You may opt out of push notifications by adjusting your device or account settings.
- Cookies: You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on our website or notified to you through the Service. Continued use after any such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
